Adam Gase could already be in trouble with the New York Jets

Adam Gase is off to a rocky start as the New York Jets head coach. If he can’t turn it around quickly, he could be in serious trouble with Gang Green.

It’s starting to get late early for the New York Jets. Gang Green had a tumultuous offseason where the Jets fired their general manager Mike Maccagnan after a terrible draft and questionable free-agent acquisitions. Hiring head coach Adam Gase after failing with the Miami Dolphins is not working out all that well either.

New York has lost its first two games of the season and is getting pummeled by the rival New England Patriots on the road early in Week 3. The Jets have been without starting quarterback the last few weeks, as Sam Darnold is dealing with mono. His backup Trevor Siemian suffered a brutal ankle injury in Week 2’s loss to the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football.

Enter third-stringer Luke Falk, now on his third team after being a sixth-round pick out of Washington State in 2018. Falk filled in respectably for the injured Siemian, but no, things are not looking great for the Jets and Gase is right in the middle of it.

Adversity is a part of football. Injuries happen and things don’t always go your way. However, Gase’s body language has been horrendous through the first three weeks of the season. The New York media is about to turn on the guy if it hasn’t already. With Darnold still on the mend, things could get out of hand very, very quickly for Gang Green. Gase should take a lot of flak for this.

The Jets have an absurd amount of talent on defense. They should be able to generate a pass rush to offset issues that exist in the secondary at the cornerback positions. Gase has worked with several solid NFL quarterbacks before in Peyton Manning, Jay Cutler and Ryan Tannehill.

Falk may not have the skills of Darnold, but that doesn’t mean that Gase can’t put his third-stringer in a position to succeed. Add in that star safety Jamal Adams was frustrated enough to unfollow the Jets on social media and things could continue to spiral out of control for Gang Green.

It’s hard to tell if something is going to work right away, but bad is bad. No, this was not an advantageous situation for Gase to get himself into after the Dolphins fired him. Perhaps he should have waited a year to become a head coach again? Would landing with a good team to be their new offensive coordinator been the better option?

Well, that’s all in the past and Gase is now in the Big Apple struggling to get any sort of production out of his AFC East franchise. It’s not like he doesn’t know what to expect out of New England, as he coached another AFC East rival in Miami for three years before becoming the Jets head coach.

While there is still time for Gase to right the ship in East Rutherford, he has to make that a priority if he’ll want to stick with the Jets long-term. Otherwise, this could be another lost season for Gang Green and a year of wasted growth opportunity for Darnold as a franchise quarterback.
