After a recent stint with AAA, could Cain Velasquez take his pro wrestling talents to WWE or AEW?

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has received plenty of positive feedback over his professional wrestling debut in AAA. As the 37-year-old MMA legend is looking to sink his teeth into the world of pro-wrestling, Velasquez has become the talk of the internet. Dave Meltzer reported at MMAFighting.com that Velasquez is in talks with WWE officials on possibly joining the company in the near future. Meltzer also stated in the same report that Cain Velasquez is looking to get into pro wrestling on a regular basis.

It’s also worth mentioning that while it’s well-reported that there’s a dialogue between WWE and the former UFC veteran, Meltzer also reported that Cain Velasquez is also in talks with companies like NJPW and even AEW, who’s set to make their weekly-televised debut this week. AAA currently has a partnership with AEW, and Velasquez is already working with the former. Further, on a conference call on Tuesday, AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes said that he is keeping his eye on Velasquez, saying “If he’d like to come play ball with us, I’d be down.”

On a side not, Velasquez gave an interview with ESPN not too long ago on his involvement with pro wrestling. During that interview, he was asked what he personally finds what wrestling more appealing, WWE or AEW. Velasquez said:

"I love them both. I think obviously WWE is the powerhouse. They’ve had the biggest stars come from there and it’s the most watched wrestling in the U.S. for sure. I love the backstories and the drama, but their wrestling to me — I like more of the lucha stuff. I like the athleticism, and we do see some in WWE, but as far as wrestling goes, it’s not my favorite organization just as far as the wrestling."

Velasquez added, “I think AEW is doing some great stuff. I like the talent that they’ve brought in. They have a mix of lucha, which I think is pretty cool, and something fans are really liking these days. They’re doing a great job in giving the fans what they want as far as the wrestling and I love that they’re doing that.”

While Meltzer reported on Tuesday on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE is gearing up to pit Velasquez against Brock Lesnar (the two battled in the UFC Octagon in 2010), they may not get the chance. Velasquez seems to prefer AEW as a pro wrestling product, saying that while “I like them both for what they are, I love the way AEW is going, the path they are going. I see big things for them in the future … If I can, I’d love to do something with them.”

Still, money talks and a fight with Lesnar would be a major draw for WWE. Regardless, it looks like Velasquez’s pro wrestling career is just getting started.
