Fantasy football lineup advice – Quarterback

BOOM:

Dak Prescott, DAL @ NYJ

Dak must really want a new contract. He’s been mostly brilliant thus far for fantasy purposes, currently sitting as the overall QB5 on the season while averaging 22.9 fantasy points per game. He hasn’t been quite as sharp over the last two weeks as he was through his first three games but still managed to throw for over 460 yards (albeit, with three interceptions) in Week 5’s loss to Green Bay.

This week, he draws the winless Jets. Teams haven’t needed to throw the ball as much this year against Gang Green as they’ve jumped out to big leads early on, which is why New York has only allowed 17.5 FPPG to opposing passers. This week, the Jets should get Sam Darnold back, which should make this game more competitive and allow Prescott plenty of volume. Lock him in as one of the best starting options at his position this week.

BUST:

Matthew Stafford, DET @ GB

After finishing last season as fantasy’s QB20, Stafford has come back from the dead, posting 19.6 FPPG. In his latest effort, the big-armed gunslinger nearly upset the Chiefs, outperforming reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes while throwing for nearly 300 yards and three touchdowns. With that being said, his competition has been lackluster to this point, going against the Cardinals, Chargers, and a banged-up Eagles secondary in his first three games.

He’ll face his toughest test yet in a divisional matchup against the 4-1 Packers. Green Bay’s defense has done a complete 180 from last year, surrendering just 15.2 FPPG (seventh-fewest in the NFL) to QBs through the first five weeks. This secondary has also nabbed seven interceptions thus far, tied for second-most in the league. Stafford’s bounce-back season appears legit, but this is one of those matchups you’ll want to avoid.

Sleeper:

Gardner Minshew II, JAX vs. NO

Last week against the Panthers, Minshew turned in his best fantasy output of the season, going for 21.2 points. He’s looked more comfortable each week in John DeFilippo‘s offense and now gets a matchup with the New Orleans Saints, who’ve handed over the second-most FPPG to opposing signal-callers. The Saints are strong against the run, suggesting the Jags will need Minshew to step up and push the ball downfield in this one.
