Rizzla breaks down and discusses the rationale behind his Yahoo NFL Cup Round 6 DFS lineup.

As always I like to start off the week by reflecting and learning from the previous week’s lineup. There were some massive hits, some solid to strong plays, and of course, the disappointing misses in our Yahoo NFL DFS picks.

On the massive hit front, we had Deshaun Watson. As expected, he lit up the Atlanta Falcons defense in convincing fashion. He amassed 426 passing yards and five touchdowns. He added 47 rushing yards for good measure and finished the afternoon with a gargantuan 41.74 points.

While Will Fuller somehow did not make my lineup at Yahoo (I had him plugged in at both DK and FD) I did manage to remember to plug Chris Godwin in. Godwin racked up 28 fantasy points on the strength of seven receptions, 125 receiving yards, and two touchdowns. Godwin has been the number one fantasy receiver through five weeks of action.

On the solid to strong plays front we had the Carolina Panthers. We learned in Week 4 that the Jacksonville offense is one to target. They allowed the Denver Broncos to achieve their first sacks of the season. This could only mean good things for a defense that has been superior to the Broncos this season. The Panthers scored a rock-solid 14 fantasy points thanks to two sacks, two fumble recoveries, and a defensive touchdown scored.

Mark Ingram was another solid play thanks to finding the end zone, but the rest of his stat line was a disappointment against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ingram scored 11.9 fantasy points but was rather pedestrian on the ground with 44 rushing yards off 19 carries. His two receptions for five yards helped keep his fantasy day somewhat respectable.

Austin Hooper had a solid fantasy outing, but also disappointed relative to expectations. He hauled in six of his nine targets for 56 yards receiving. The number two fantasy tight end remains a solid weekly target.

On the failed lineup decision front we will start with LeSean McCoy. McCoy saw just two receptions and zero carries. He lost a fumble in the second quarter and ended up playing just 22 percent of the snaps.

Wayne Gallman saw just two carries before being knocked out of the game with a concussion. He was a high risk, volume play to begin with and failed to provide any sort of return on investment.

Marquise Brown seemed to be on his way to a bounce-back week but ended up hurting his ankle and playing just 44 percent of the team’s snaps. He finished with 9.7 points off of three receptions, 22 yards, and a touchdown.

Finally, Alshon Jeffery. He had a solid, but unremarkable outing. He managed to haul in six of his eight targets, but only managed to parlay them into a scoreless 52 yards receiving. 8.2 points fell way below expectations.

For this week’s NFL Yahoo Cup free roll I followed my usual strategy of filling defense, tight end and quarterback first by identifying the best potential values and then doing the same for both running back and receiver.
