Tim Tebow makes his midseason pick for the Heisman Trophy, speculates on Urban Meyer’s future and comparisons to him and Tua Tagovailoa.

ESPN college football analyst Tim Tebow spoke with FanSided‘s Mark Carman about Urban Meyer’s chances of coaching again and who he has as his early Heisman Trophy front-runner. Tebow, who won the 2007 Heisman Trophy and BCS National Championships in 2006 and 2008 at Florida, spoke with FanSided on behalf of 2019 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

In 2009, Tebow made the Good Works Team. Members of the 2019 AFCA Good Works Team include Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm, Kentucky offensive tackle Landon Young and the Clemson’s Dabo Swinney as the honorary head coach.

“There are very few [awards] that honor the type of men that they are in their community and the way that they give back, their leadership and their ability to help people in need,” said Tebow. “That’s why I love honoring these 22 young men and Coach Dabo [Swinney] as the honorary coach because it’s important that we celebrate it.”

“If I had to vote today, I would vote Joe Burrow.”

While winning on the gridiron is important, winning off the field is even more so. Tebow, committed to his faith and family, sees that as common ground between him and Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, besides being SEC southpaws.

“Well, I think we play the game very differently, but I think our family and our faith matter a lot to us and that’s something we’ve really connected on.” Though Tagovailoa is a man of great character, he doesn’t have Tebow’s early vote for the Heisman. He’s siding with LSU quarterback Joe Burrow.

“If I had to vote today, I would vote Joe Burrow, said Tebow. “But he’s had the chance to play a few of his biggest games at Texas and against Florida at home last weekend. And Tua [Tagovailoa] is gonna have his chance to have those games. [Jalen] Hurts is going to have a few more games in front of him. Justin Fields has all his big games in front of him.”

While any of those quarterbacks could win the Heisman, none will be coached by Meyer, as Tebow doesn’t think his former head coach will be back on the sidelines anytime soon.

“I’d say I think he’s trying not to,” said Tebow. “I think he wants to be able to find that purpose outside of coaching in TV and speaking.” Meyer retired from coaching for health reasons. Though a part of FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff, Meyer is the best free-agent head coach on the market.

Tebow would say Meyer enjoys impacting others’ lives positively away from the gridiron, including being heavily involved in the Tim Tebow Foundation, but he does have a scenario where his former head coach could get back into coaching.

“I think it would be at a place where he would be able to compete quickly,…where he would be able to get the recruits he wants and the facilities to compete again for titles,” said Tebow. “There’s a lot of great opportunities out there. The country is getting smaller, there are more places that can compete for titles I think now than ever before.” Could that mean USC?
