In the biggest game of the week, the Michigan Wolverines are getting embarrassed on national television by the Penn State Nittnay Lions in Happy Valley.

When you’re playing in arguably the biggest game of the week, one would think that you’d get up for it, especially if you’re the underdog playing on the road in a hostile environment. Well, you haven’t seen the Jim Harbaugh‘s 2019 Michigan Wolverines play this season then. They are getting the snot beat out of them in the first half by James Franklin’s Penn State Nittany Lions.

Michigan has had its issues offensively throughout the campaign. Even though quarterback Shea Patterson was a former five-star recruit, that simply does not matter because the Michigan offense is doing a remarkable job of resembling the 2016 Los Angeles Rams offense under then-head coach Jeff Fisher. At least Patterson knows where the sun goes, unlike Jared Goff.

But unlike Goff, Patterson will not be the No. 1 overall pick in an NFL Draft. He is the face of a bland and predictable Michigan offense that strikes absolutely no fear in Franklin’s ferocious Penn State defense. These are bitter division rivals that should be competing for championships. Penn State is, but Michigan is not under Harbaugh and the Wolverines won’t sniff Indianapolis yet again.

Michigan suffered its first loss of the season on the road against the Wisconsin Badgers at Camp Randall in Madison. That looked to be a respectable loss heading into Week 8. Unfortunately, the Badgers looked ahead at their Week 9 opponent in the Ohio State Buckeyes, which resulted in them losing on the road to a bad Illinois Fighting Illini team on a last-second field goal.

With their Big Ten Championship and College Football Playoff dreams on life support, the Wolverines aren’t doing what it takes to get a huge win to keep their season alive. It was not going to be an easy time playing Penn State at night in front of a whiteout crowd.

However, the Wolverines need to find a way to cut into this early deficit in Happy Valley. They did get a touchdown before the half to make it 21-7 Penn State, but until they bring it within a score, the Nittany Lions shouldn’t feel the least bit worried about Michigan. The Wolverines don’t ooze offensive efficiency against quality Big Ten opponents. Look for Penn State to put this away soon.
