2020 NFL mock draft: Justin Herbert goes to the Chargers
By Brad Weiss
The Kansas City Chiefs continue to roll through the AFC West, and this past Thursday, they dominated the Denver Broncos inside Mile High. The only issue with the victory was the fact that star quarterback Patrick Mahomes got hurt, but all indications are that he will be back sooner than later.
Until then, the Chiefs will have to roll with Matt Moore at quarterback, and he will get his first start this Sunday against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football. That is a tall task for Moore, but even if the Chiefs do lose, they should not lose too much footing in the AFC West, which they have dominated over the past few years.
Looking at this roster moving forward, the Chiefs still need help at cornerback, and they will get some at the back half of the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Bryce Hall from Virginia is the kind of prospect who can come in and start right away, and if the Chiefs can somehow shore up the defense, they are going to be a Super Bowl contender for years to come.
The New Orleans Saints are dangerously good on both sides of the ball this season, and they are doing it without starting quarterback Drew Brees. While the future Hall of Famer should be back in Week 8, former starter Teddy Bridgewater has stepped in beautifully for the Saints, leading them to what should be an insurmountable lead in the NFC South.
Looking ahead to the 2020 NFL Draft, it is time to start thinking about life after Brees, and Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts is playing himself into first round consideration. He is dangerous with his feet, that is true, but he is also developing into a solid pocket passer, and has the arm strength to succeed at the next level.
Bridgewater is going to want to start somewhere next season, as he proved he can still win games in bunches at the NFL level. Hurts could have the luxury of learning behind Brees for a few seasons, which would make him that much better when his time finally arrives in New Orleans.
