Chicago Bears should trade for Andy Dalton right now

The Chicago Bears are 3-4 and having to live with Mitch Trubisky at quarterback. They should be frantically calling the Bengals about Andy Dalton.

Andy Dalton turned 32 years old on Tuesday. He also found out he’s getting benched. Tough way to celebrate.

Dalton is going to the pine for the Cincinnati Bengals, as their tank parade rolls on like none other. With Dalton going to the bench and his contract team-friendly, the Chicago Bears should be calling until the phone line catches fire.

Chicago had grand plans of hosting a Super Bowl parade down Michigan Avenue in February, but the season has gone haywire. The Bears are 3-4 and quarterback Mitchell Trubisky is playing horribly. Last Sunday, Trubisky had two killer fourth-quarter turnovers that effectively lost the game for Chicago, falling 17-16 to the Los Angeles Chargers.

While Dalton isn’t going to the Hall of Fame without a ticket, he’s a clear upgrade without any guaranteed costs going forward. This season, Dalton has thrown for 2,252 yards with nine touchdowns and eight interception, completing 61 percent of his throws. Not great, but better than Trubisky, who continues to be sheltered by incredibly conservative play-calling.

The cost to acquire Dalton would be low considering Cincinnati just nailed him to the bench. If general manager Ryan Pace can get him for a third or fourth-round choice, it seems that would be an attractive option to save the season.

If the Bears are going to make such a move, they better act quickly. The NFL trade deadline is on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. ET.
