2020 NFL mock draft: Buccaneers select Jake Fromm in first round
By Brad Weiss
The Philadelphia Eagles looked to be a team trending in the right direction a few weeks back, but after getting thrashed by division rival Dallas, a ton of questions popped up around them being a legitimate contender in 2019. However, they got back on the right track this past weekend, going into Buffalo and beating the 5-1 Bills handily, so all is well in the City of Brotherly Love heading into Week 9.
One issue that has been plaguing this team all season long has been the play of their secondary, especially at the cornerback position. Sitting at No. 15 overall next April, the Eagles should look to bring in one of the premier cornerbacks in this draft class, adding Trevon Diggs from Alabama in the first round.
Diggs, the brother of Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver Stefon Diggs, has the talent to start right away at the NFL level. For the Eagles, he would not only fill a need, but bring that championship pedigree that can help this team as a whole moving forward, as they have the pieces to be very good for a very long time.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are fresh off a solid victory over the New York Jets this past weekend, but they have a huge question looming when Nick Foles returns from injury. 2019 sixth round quarterback Gardner Minshew has taken the NFL by storm since taking over in Week 2, and it is going to be very hard for the team to bench him.
With the No. 16 overall pick, the Jaguars should look to add Laviska Shenault Jr., who was finally healthy this past weekend, and it showed against a pretty good USC defense. Shenault nearly led the Colorado Buffaloes to an upset victory over the Trojans, racking up over 170 yards receiving and a touchdown.
No matter who the quarterback is moving forward for Jacksonville, they need more help at wide receiver, and Shenault is one of the better playmakers entering this draft. If the Jaguars can continue to stack weapons on the offensive side of the ball, they have the talent on defense to be a contender in the AFC South for years to come.
