Trick or treat college football style. These have been the biggest tricks (disappointments) and the biggest treats (pleasant surprises) so far this year.

So we decided to take these ideas in the Halloween spirit and give you guys our tricks and treats of the college football season. Pretty self-explanatory, the tricks are like the neighbors that hand out apples and dental floss. Not good. The treats are your neighbors that hand out full-sized candy bars. Ideal.

You may be too old to trick or treat in real life (but if you do anyways, no judgment), so check this list out for some Halloween fun.

Trick – Oklahoma and Georgia go down

On Saturday, Oct. 12, the South Carolina Gamecocks rolled into Sanford Stadium and shocked the College Football world with a 20-17 win over the Georgia Bulldogs. Jake Fromm, at that point a dark horse Heisman candidate, committed four turnovers to help South Carolina pull off the upset.

Oklahoma lost this weekend to Kansas State, after a last-second offside kick that the Sooners initially recovered was overturned. Up until this Saturday, Oklahoma had won 22 road games in a row, most in the nation.

While these losses are huge hits to both teams’ national title hopes, neither are insurmountable. If Oklahoma and Georgia both win out and win their respective conference championship games they have a shot to get in. Georgia’s route is simple: if they win out, they’re in. The playoff selection committee has shown they are willing to admit two SEC teams when there is a one-loss SEC Champion. This was the case when Alabama beat Georgia in the National Championship back in 2018.

Oklahoma’s path is not as easy. The Sooners have to win out of course, but they might need some help. The Pac-12 could definitely be excluded this year, but if the LSU Alabama game is as good as advertised and both those teams win out, they will likely be in the playoff. Oklahoma needs one of these teams to trip up along the way.
