Clash of the Titans
The next big segment was the announced contract signing for the AEW Championship match at Full Gear between the defending champion, Chris Jericho, and the challenger, Cody.
Jericho comes out in a blinding purple and orange Halloween-themed suit jacket and Cody appears in his signature business attire.
Cody signs the contract with no issues but glares at Jericho as the contract is passed down to his opponent. Jericho jumps to his feet as if he is about to attack Cody but instead he just laughs. Jericho grabs the mic and states that this match is too important to make a spectacle out of the contract signing.
He reminds Cody that this is the biggest match his career and if he wins he will get to be what he’s always wanted to be, a World Champion. Jericho also states that he will sign the contract and that at Full Gear he will show Cody what it feels like to be a loser.
Jericho uncharacteristically shakes Cody’s hand but Cody pulls him in close and gives him a death stare. Jericho says that they can stand there all night but Cody might be needed elsewhere.
Sammy Guevara is then shown on the big screen with Jake Hager, who is beating down Cody’s brother, Dustin, in the parking lot. Before Cody can get to him, Hager dents a limo with Dustin’s head and slams his arm in the limo door.
Cody and MJF run out to help Dustin as Jericho and his cronies leave in another car.
AEW delivered a unique contract signing that didn’t feel cheap and cheesy and also didn’t end in a brawl. Both men came off looking well and Jericho found another smart way to hurt Cody without even laying a hand on him.
