Robby Anderson benefits huge this week with Xavien Howard going on IR

Wide receiver Robby Anderson looks to go off this week, as he won’t be matched up against cornerback Xavien Howard, who just went on IR.

Even though the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets have gone a combined 1-13 through the first eight weeks of the 2019 NFL season, there are a few reasons to watch this game besides it being a complete and total dumpster fire. There are fantasy football implications to be had. One player who could have a huge game in this one is Jets wide receiver, Robby Anderson.

The Fantasy Footballers bring to light that Anderson, who is seen as the Jet’s No. 1 wide receiver option, won’t have to be shadowed by the best defensive back on Miami’s roster. The reason for this is that Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard has been placed on IR after suffering an injury in Miami’s latest loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football in Week 8.

The Dolphins defense gave up 27 unanswered points in primetime last week after Miami started the game on a 14-0 run. They fell apart defensively once Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph started to pick apart the Dolphins secondary that was without Howard the rest of the way. Could Sam Darnold and the Jets’ passing attack do the same thing?

New York can take advantage of the Dolphins’ depleted secondary, but Darnold has to play better. Since seeing ghosts on Monday Night Football two weeks ago, Darnold has become a pick machine for Gang Green. He played poorly in last week’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. If he’s in his head, that could be a problem for the Jets.

That being said, he just needs to throw the ball in Anderson’s direction a few times to hopefully lead New York to victory for only the second time this season. Anderson and Darnold’s connection will be key if the Jets are going to get that second win of the campaign, all the while keeping the hapless Dolphins winless.

Andreson is one of the few players on the Jets that merits a spot on your fantasy football team. He’s good to start in the flex on occasion but has been riding pine for a while with quarterback instability in the Big Apple this season. If he’s going to have a big game this season, it might as well be against the Dolphins.
