Josh Jacobs, Derek Carr are must-starts vs. Lions

It’s a big game for both teams, but look for players like Josh Jacobs, Derek Carr and Matthew Stafford to go off in Detroit Lions vs. Oakland Raiders.

Both teams are desperate this week when the Oakland Raiders host the Detroit Lions in Week 9. Oakland wants to keep pace with the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West, while Detroit is trying to keep up with both the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings in the AFC North. This is mid-season must-win game for the Lions and Raiders. Who will come out on top?

Regardless of who wins, The Fantasy Footballers see a ton of ramifications from this game. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr and Oakland running back Josh Jacobs are must-starts this week for the silver and black. The same thing goes for Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford in the Honolulu blue and silver.

Jacobs should be a must-start every week, as he has had the best first half of any rookie running back this season. He is in contention for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year right now with guys like Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray and Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew.

Carr has played well for the most part in Jon Gruden’s Raiders offense this year. Detroit is a sound defensive team, but Carr is at his best when he can lean on play-action to attempt to throw the ball downfield. Simply put, if Jacobs has a big game, so will likely Carr for the silver andblack.

As for Stafford, the Raiders have a terrible secondary that the Lions signal-caller can carve up. It might be a road game for the Lions, but Stafford has built a career on being able to move the sticks against bad defenses. Look for him to do that on Sunday afternoon in Oakland.

Depending on how the Lions’ running game goes, Detroit might be able to win this one on the road to stay in the mix in the strong NFC North. If the Raiders can knock off the Lions, they might be able to pick up a game in the AFC West standings if the Chiefs fall at home to the Vikings earlier on Sunday afternoon.
