At Survivor Series, NXT will be joining Raw and SmackDown in a battle of the brands and shots have already been fired.

An unexpected plane delay inadvertently caused one of the most exciting two hours of Friday Night SmackDown so far and it became the catalyst leading into this year’s Survivor Series. The usual Survivor Series format sees Raw and SmackDown battling it out for brand supremacy. This year NXT has been added to the mix and it’s already caught fire.

Whether by chance or design the Superstars from NXT found their way to Friday Night SmackDown where they proceeded to attack the depleted roster of stars that call the blue brand home. The fight continued on the following episode of Raw where dream fights were teased and took place, including NXT Champion Adam Cole facing Daniel Bryan and Seth Rollins as the respective main event of each show. Having the NXT talent interact with Raw and SmackDown has injected a new level of energy and interest for all three brands.

Triple H’s vision for the future of sports entertainment has been built on the foundation of the NXT brand. No longer is it simply a training ground where talent honed their craft but instead NXT has become arguably the best professional wrestling product available. Now, with NXT having moved to the USA Network, more eyes will be on the men and women who have built that impressive legacy.

As Survivor Series rolls around they’ll be coming face-to-face with the old guard of NXT. The men and women who comprise Raw and SmackDown have their own roots based in Tampa, FL where the NXT Performance Center sits. This is a war that is going to ignite fires for the performers and the fans as they clamor for the top spot. It brings a new sense of brand establishment where sides are chosen and battle lines drawn.

This is a huge opportunity for the NXT stars to show a mainstream audience what they can do inside the ring which will bring fresh eyes to the product on Wednesday nights as the storyline continues to unfold over the next few weeks. For the talent on Raw and SmackDown they get new blood to tangle with. As they say, “iron sharpens iron” and the hunger from the NXT brand to showcase their best will challenge those on Raw and SmackDown to bring their A-game. Overall it’s a win for the fans, for the Superstars, and for professional wrestling as a whole.
