Drew Brees is a must-play vs. Falcons in Week 10
By John Buhler
Drew Brees is the lucky man who gets to carve up the awful Atlanta Falcons defense. If you’re not starting him in fantasy, you deserve to lose this week.
It’s good to be Drew Brees. He’s the greatest professional athlete in New Orleans history. He won a Super Bowl and will be a first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer as soon as he’s eligible for Canton enshrinement. Also, he’s playing the terrible Atlanta Falcons defense this week.
As long as he’s healthy enough to play, you should start Drew Brees in fantasy football every week. It’s essentially a guarantee that he’ll throw for 300 yards in Sean Payton’s offense. Andy Holloway of The Fantasy Footballers says Brees is a must-start vs. the Falcons this week. Heck, even Ryan Finley making his first career start for the Cincinnati Bengals would be a must-start.

First off, the Falcons and Saints absolutely hate each other. So even if the Falcons are hot garbage this season, we should expect The Dirty Birds to give the Saints their best effort before falling to 1-8 on the year. Matt Ryan will be back under center for the Falcons after missing Week 8 with an injured ankle. So look for this to be an old-fashioned NFC South dome shootout we all love.
Because Ryan will do his part keeping the Falcons offense in this game, that will only mean more opportunities for Brees to sling the pigskin to Michael Thomas and the rest of his New Orleans receiving corps. Since Atlanta and New Orleans care very little for each other, it wouldn’t be shocking for Payton to put another nail in Dan Quinn’s Falcons coffin with a few extra touchdowns.
Well, who’s going to throw those touchdowns? It wouldn’t be shocking if this is one of those days where Payton let’s wonderboy Taysom Hill do whatever he wants on the field, so he might toss a touchdown pass to this sorry Falcons defense to a fullback for his first career touchdown reception. That’s so in play and so is a huge game for Brees in this Saints offense.
There is no downside to not starting Brees this week. Him having success on Sunday is essentially a guarantee, like the sun coming up tomorrow or there being a y at the end of every day for the rest of time. You won’t be disappointed by starting Brees against this atrocious Falcons team in Week 10.
