The FanDuel/DFS community will be happy to hear that the PGA Tour is back with the Mayakoba Golf Classic! With the start of the event fast approaching, let’s take a look at this tournament from a FanDuel perspective!

Before I dive into my FanDuel player selections, let’s take a look at the golf course the field will contend with this week and the key statistics I am focusing on for this event.

The Mayakoba Golf Classic will be played at the El Camaleon Golf Club in Mexico. This golf course is a par 71 that measures 6,987 yards. This track is a tight tree lined course that offers small green complexes. It should also be noted that this is a coastal track that offers paspalum green surfaces.

This will be the 13th consecutive year that El Camaleon has hosted the Mayakoba Golf Classic. Keep that in mind as you compile player pools for your FanDuel lineups.

As a reviewed previous history of this event when it was played at El Camaleon, it became evident to me rather quickly that accuracy off the tee was paramount to success on this track. Additionally, most PGA Tour events reward golfers that are bombers. Well, not here. What matters here is finding the fairway first and foremost.

The key statistics I am focusing on this week are driving accuracy, GIR (greens in regulation), strokes gained approach, and scrambling.

Let’s shift our attention to my FanDuel player picks for this week’s Mayakoba Golf Classic.

Charles Howell III $11,000

Howell III is known as a golfer that loves playing on coastal golf courses. That love for playing on the coast can be illustrated in Howell III’s last win on Tour which was the 2019 RSM Classic. For those that do not know, the RSM Classic is played on a coastal golf course in Sea Island, Georgia.

This man arrives at this tournament playing quite well. Charles has made the cut in all five tournaments that he has played to start the new PGA Tour season. More importantly, Howell III has three top 20 finishes in the last five PGA Tour events that he has played, including an eighth place finish at the ZOZO Championship in October.

As far as previous course form goes, well, Charles checks that box for me as well. Howell III has played the Mayakoba Golf Classic at El Camaleon ten times since 2009. In those ten events played, Charles has an outstanding seven top 20 finishes, including a fourth place finish in 2017.

Russell Knox $10,800

If you are looking for a course horse to fit a specific narrative, look no further. You have found your man. Russell Knox clearly loves playing at the El Camaleon Golf Club.

Let’s take a quick look at Knox’s previous results at this track. Knox has played this course six times since 2012. Knox has made the cut in all six events and finished no worse than 37th. Additionally, he has three consecutive top nine finishes at this event, including a third place finish in 2016.

Knox also arrives at this event in decent form. Knox has made the cut in five consecutive events (PGA and European Tour events). He also finished 28th at the Houston Open in October.

If you are looking for additional golfers to complete your Fanduel lineups I also like the following players to make the cut and possibly top 25.

Harold Varner III $9,700

Varner III has four top 27 finishes in his last five events, including a 17th place finish at the Safeway Open in October.

Si Woo Kim $9,200

He finished 26th at the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges last month. Additionally, Kim finished third at the 2017 Mayakoba Golf Classic.

Adam Schenk $8,900

Adam Schenk has two top 22 finishes in his last three events, including an 18th place finish at the Shriners Hospitals For Children Open last month.

Mark Hubbard $8,600

Hubbard finished second at the Houston Open in October.
