3. Chip Kelly – UCLA

For a while, it was looking like the Chip Kelly era at UCLA might be one of the most disastrous marriages in college football history.

Not that it’s been much better, but the Bruins rattled off one of the most unprecedented comebacks at Washington State to save face as Kelly looks to turn things around before ending up being one of the worst hires in college football history.

With a ton of freshmen on the roster and not having his quarterback in place yet, Kelly can point to multiple things as to why it’s going to take some time to get going. Then again, people expected a lot more than this.

Kelly has been a bit of a relic of the past. The Bruins won’t be going to a bowl game this season, but they can point to improvement.

After three wins in Kelly’s first year, UCLA has four this year and a shot at five when they host Cal on Saturday. Going from three to five wins is something Kelly can point to as for a reason to save his job.

In fact, rattling off some midseason conference wins probably saved his job for at least one more year. Had it not been for that unprecedented comeback in Pullman, the Kelly era might have been over before it began.
