5. Oregon Ducks

Rank: 14 | Opponent: Oregon State Beavers | Time: Saturday, Nov. 30, 4:00 p.m. ET

Rest assured, this isn’t an overreaction to what happened to the Oregon Ducks last week. Justin Herbert and Mario Cristobal’s team had a College Football Playoff berth potentially on the line if they could stay perfect for the rest of the regular season and then win the Pac-12 and they instead went on the road to Arizona State and laid a complete dud. Now their CFP hopes are dead but they can still win the conference.

By record and given recent history, Oregon should be able to handle the rival Oregon State Beavers in the Civil War. The Beavers are just 5-6 on the season, compared to the Ducks’ mark of 9-2 on the year. Meanwhile, the Oregon State defense has been lackluster for most of the season, giving up an uninspiring 33.3 points per game on the year.

Having said that, the Beavers have had a propensity for making games close, particularly with the prowess of their offense, which has taken a huge leap from last year to this season. With the exception of the season-opener against Oklahoma State and a loss to Utah, every loss has been by 12 points or fewer and Oregon State has beaten quality teams like Arizona State and Cal.

With the way that the Ducks were burned last week, perhaps they have a hangover from that game in a negative way. There is a chance that Oregon comes into this matchup, even in Eugene, quite deflated after seeing their CFP aspirations come crashing down. And if that happens with this tough, frisky Oregon State team, the Beavers have the offensive firepower to make things quite interesting.
