Joe Burrow proves college football is still the best. He enters his last game at LSU during Senior Day wearing a Joe Burreaux jersey.

Will the Heisman Trophy spell his name Joe Burrow or Burreaux?

Joe Burrow had one home game left at Death Valley as a member of the LSU Tigers, so no doubt the Heisman Trophy frontrunner was going to make the most of his final entrance into Tiger Stadium down in Baton Rouge. On Senior Day, Burrow came out of the tunnel wearing a Joe Burreaux jersey, showcasing his newfound Cajun roots of the last two seasons.

Burrow grew up in Ohio, as his father was the long-time defensive coordinator of Frank Solich for the Ohio Bobcats. Out of high school, Burrow played his college ball for Urban Meyer’s Ohio State Buckeyes. But after not beating out Dwayne Haskins for the starting job in 2018, Burrow opted to transfer to LSU. The rest is history.

Burrow stands to be the second Heisman Trophy winner in LSU football history, joining the legendary Billy Cannon from over 60 years ago. During his senior season in Baton Rouge, Burrow transformed himself from a solid SEC quarterback to the Heisman Trophy frontrunner and the likely No. 1 overall pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2020 NFL Draft.

2019 has been wonderful for Burrow. With a win at home over the division rival Texas A&M Aggies, LSU will presumably make its first trip to the College Football Playoff. They’d be 12-0 (8-0) heading into the SEC Championship Game vs. the Georgia Bulldogs. Even if they were to lose to Georgia in Atlanta, LSU stands a great chance at getting in, as a one-loss, at-large team.

But LSU will be an overwhelming favorite over Georgia next week and Burrow has become the darling of college football with every passing week. He is poised to be the first Bayou Bengal quarterback to be drafted No. 1 overall since JaMarcus Russell went to the Oakland Raiders in 2007. Burrow is probably the best pure passer to play for LSU since Bert Jones decades ago.

He’s been so cool under pressure this year and his final entrance into Death Valley will forever be the stuff of legend. Who puts on a jersey that pays tribute to the Cajun history of Louisiana with a twist on your surname? He may not be a native Louisianan, but nobody is cooler in the entire state than Burrow in 2019. Well, maybe except Coach O and Mike the Tiger, but that’s great company.
