13. Los Angeles Kings

During the 2008-09 season, the Los Angeles Kings unveiled a black, white and silver themed alternate jersey and teased hockey fans with the idea that they just might revert to the Gretzky era uniforms.

That alternate design was introduced as the team’s primary sweater in 2011-12 and still acts as the current home uniform. Los Angeles has always been a team to experiment with its jerseys, especially an alternate version.

The Kings followed up the new era of the black, silver and white sweaters with a classic stunt. The team utilized its secondary color for the base color of its newest third jersey. This overall design is simple where classy meets flashy, per se.

Some fans may not appreciate the gray, but it’s a nice change of pace for third jerseys around the league and stays true to the Kings’ brand. While Los Angeles hasn’t won a Stanley Cup since the sweater was introduced in 2016-17, perhaps there’s hope this attractive alternate will carry on for a few more years.

At this point, the Kings need some new energy for its roster, but officially reverting to a modern version of the Gretzky era would be exciting for all hockey fans and not just the Los Angeles faithful.

Like it or not, but this sweater has shelf-life to last longer than most because of its simplicity. It ranks higher than most sweaters on this list for that reason and its ability to make a case at being labeled as “timeless” similar to the Gretzky era design.
