The No. 4 Michigan Wolverines and the No. 1 Louisville Cardinals will go head-to-head Wednesday night in Louisville as the highlight game of this year’s much-anticipated Big Ten-ACC challenge.

Every time a top seed falls in the world of college basketball, a wrench is thrown into the machine, and when you change the No. 1 team in the country a massive four times in the first few months of the season?

Chaos unfolds.

Just in this past week, the Michigan Wolverines have gone from being unranked to being one of the top-ranked teams in the country at No. 4, and deservedly so. Landing ranked ahead of in-state rival and former-No. 1 overall Michigan State, it just means more now for the Wolverines, who have an argument to be not just No. 4, but even higher.

Those who doubted Juwan Howard and his hiring in the off-season this year have already started to settle in for a nice dinner, comprised of the main meal—their own words. Howard and this team, led by Isaiah Livers and Jon Teske, now sit in a prime position to make a national statement.

That said, it’s not all upsets, underdogs and rainbows.

Junior forward Jordan Nwora and the Louisville Cardinals started the season at No. 3 in the AP Poll, and many believed that the Cardinals, under head coach Chris Mack, were due for a season reminiscent of the years between 2012 and 2015, when the Cardinals not only appeared in four straight Sweet 16 but made three elite eight appearances, two final four appearances and even won the college basketball title in 2013.

Now, just a few weeks into the season, we are destined for a matchup of the top two teams in the country in the aforementioned Louisville and Michigan squads. It’s going to be a fun matchup, with Louisville having one of the nation’s most effective offenses, matched up against a Michigan defense that has given opponents fits.

Both teams have their own stories, but whoever comes out on top Wednesday night will look to write their own path, potentially to being (or staying) the No. 1 seed.
