2020 NFL mock draft: Cincinnati Bengals replace Andy Dalton with Joe Burrow
By Brad Weiss
The Atlanta Falcons have been one of the more disappointing teams in the NFC this season, as their record has not matched the amount of talent they have on the roster. Head coach Dan Quinn could be out at the end of the season, which means a bunch of changes could be coming in terms of player personnel, and coaches.
As we look at the Falcons roster, they have a ton of issues to take care of next offseason, including the lack of depth in their secondary. When it comes to the cornerback group in this year’s draft class, Jeffrey Okudah has emerged as the No. 1 option, and would be an excellent get for the Falcons with the No. 5 overall pick.
Atlanta has the talent on offense to beat anybody, but their defense has really held them back this season in a very tough NFC South division. If they ever want to get back to the top of the division, they have to do a better job against the pass, and a player like Okudah instantly makes their defensive backfield better.
The Detroit Lions looked to be a team headed towards the playoffs early in the season, as they were getting some of the best football we have seen from Matthew Stafford in recent years. However, a devastating injury to Stafford forced the Lions to turn to Jeff Driskel, and then to their third-string quarterback David Blough in their Thanksgiving Day loss to the Chicago Bears.
Still, this is a Lions team that is set at a bunch of key position, but their defense really needs some bolstering heading into next offseason. The Lions have issues at the safety position, and if they decide to get better at that spot in the 2020 NFL Draft, you have to like the chances they land with Isaiah Simmons at No. 6 overall.
Simmons is not only a fantastic safety for the Clemson Tigers, but he has the skill set to play both safety, and linebacker, making him one of the more versatile defensive players in this draft class. Detroit has the talent on offense to be competitive in the NFC as soon as next season, but if they do not get better in the back end, they cannot be considered a legitimate threat against the premier quarterbacks in this league.
