Eli Manning officially named Giants’ starter for MNF

Eli Manning has been named the starter in the New York Giants’ Week 14 Monday night matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Since rookie quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a high ankle sprain in last week’s meeting between the New York Giants and the Green Bay Packers, New York has been preparing for Eli Manning to be the Week 14 starter. On Saturday, they made it official, ruling out Daniel Jones and announcing that Manning will start against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.

Jones suffered the high ankle sprain in the second quarter against Green Bay. While he finished out the game, it appears that the Giants don’t want to take any chances with the man who they see as the future of their franchise. In his place, Manning will get the chance to say farewell to the Giants and perhaps show other teams what he is capable of, if he is looking to make a move in the offseason.

Prior to this season, Manning had been the starting quarterback for the New York Giants since he entered the league in 2004. He has brought two Super Bowl titles to the Big Apple, although recent years have given fans little to celebrate.

The Giants come into Week 14 trying to snap an eight-game losing streak. They are currently 2-10, with only the 1-11 Cincinnati Bengals coming into Week 14 with a worse record. After a rough start to the season, the Giants benched Manning in favor of the rookie quarterback, but their continued woes have proved that maybe Manning wasn’t the problem in the first place.

The Philadelphia Eagles will be looking to keep pace with the 6-7 Dallas Cowboys as they battle for the No. 1 spot in the NFC East.

In addition to Daniel Jones, tight end Evan Engram (foot), cornerback Corey Ballentine (concussion), and tight end Rhett Ellison (concussion) will also miss the Monday night matchup. The game kicks off on ESPN at 8:15pm ET.
