Patriots release statement on Bengals sideline recording

The New England Patriots have released a statement regarding the camera crew at the Bengals-Browns game.

On Monday, it was revealed that the NFL is investigating a Patriots camera crew that was taping in the press box at Sunday’s game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns. The crew had credentials to film for the Patriots “Do Your Job” web series. But a Cincinnati Bengals employee claims that the crew was filming the Bengals coaches and staff on the sideline.

The NFL has rules on what can and cannot be recorded during games and the Patriots could be disciplined if they are found to have violated the rules.

During Monday Night Football, the Patriots released a statement regarding the investigation. They confirm that the crew was present as part of the “Do Your Job” series, covering a scout while he was working in the press box. The statement also states that “while we sought and were granted credentialed access from the Cleveland Browns for the video crew, our failure to inform the Bengals and the League was an unintended oversight.”

The Patriots also say that they did not intend to use the film for any purpose other than to illustrate the work of their advance scout and that they recognized that the crew violated league policy.

The incident comes one week before the Patriots are set to travel to Cincinnati for a Week 15 matchup against the Bengals. The Patriots (10-3) will be looking to rebound from back-to-back losses, while the Bengals will be looking for just their second win of the season.
