48. Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, 82.26

  • Roster Strength: 83.42 (49)
  • Team Performance: 79.62 (71)
  • Head Coach Rating: 80.68 (77)

Louisiana Tech appeared poised to win Conference USA’s West Division and built an 8-1 overall record, including a 5-0 start in league play. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs suspended starting quarterback J’Mar Smith, receiver Adrian Hardy and safety James Jackson for two games – losses to Marshall and UAB – which cost Tech a shot at the conference crown.

The good news is all three players are expected to play against Miami in the Independence Bowl, along with breakthrough running back Justin Henderson, who ran for 15 touchdowns during the regular season. Hopefully All-American cornerback Amik Robertson, a potential first-round NFL Draft pick – will be on hand as well.

47. Florida State Seminoles, 82.30

  • Roster Strength: 86.72 (18)
  • Team Performance: 83.10 (40)
  • Head Coach* Rating: 75.00 (112)

Willie Taggart never found his footing as the head coach at Florida State, and he lasted just 21 games in Tallahassee. Hiring Mike Norvell from Memphis seems like a step in the right direction, though two head coaching transitions in three years is tough to navigate.

But there will always be talent. Florida State ranks No. 18 in Roster Strength, the Seminoles entered the season No. 6 in the 247Sports Team Talent Composite, and despite the turnover, ranks No. 22 in the most recent 247Sports Team Composite rankings for the 2020 recruiting class.

Norvell won’t coach the Noles in the Sun Bowl against Arizona State, but if we were to plug in his career Head Coach rating (84.05) in place of interim head coach Odell Haggins, FSU would jump to No. 26 in our power ratings – a solid sign for the future.
