2020 NFL mock draft: Joe Burrow to save the Bengals
By Brad Weiss
The Carolina Panthers lost quarterback Cam Newton early in the season, and had to turn to an undrafted quarterback in Kyle Allen. While Allen has had his moments, including a strong interception-free start to his NFL career, he has come back down to earth in recent months, and may not be the guy moving forward.
Carolina will have a new head coach in 2020, as they fired Ron Rivera this season, so that guy may want to bring in his own quarterback. At No. 11 overall, we like the Panthers to add Jalen Hurts from Oklahoma, who has proven he can deliver the ball from the pocket this season, and is also strong with his feet.
Of course, Carolina could go a number of different ways with this pick, but if Hurts can have a strong College Football Playoff, and a good combine, you have to like his chances of being picked in round one. He is a guy who is tough, proven, and gritty, all things this Panthers fan base likes to see from their quarterbacks.
The Atlanta Falcons came away with a stunning victory on Sunday, and for the fan base, it had to bring almost some some sadness instead of happiness. Sunday was a vision of what this team could have been this season, as they went into San Francisco and beat arguably the best team in the NFC in front of their home fans.
While Sunday was a nice win, the focus is going to shift to 2020 very soon, and one big question is whether or not Dan Quinn will be retained as head coach. My money is on Quinn being back for another season, and if he is, they have to do something about a defense that was really a weak spot in 2019.
A.J. Epenesa is one of the better edge rushers in this draft class, and if Chase Young decides to return to Ohio State, he will be the first one off the board. For Atlanta, he would fill an immediate need, and hopefully take some of the pressure off of Vic Beasley Jr., who was once considered one of the better young edge rushers in the game.
