It’s time for Legacies to take a couple of weeks off and return in January, even if it’s only October in Mystic Falls.

It’s that time of year again. As the holidays get closer, network TV goes into repeat mode until January. That means no new episode of Legacies for a couple of weeks.

Before the break, it was time for Legacies‘ first Christmas-themed episode. It might still be October in Mystic Falls, but Krampus has come to town and filled the school with holiday cheer so the students are easier to kill. Hope and Lizzie are the only ones who can see that something is very wrong. Lizzie sets out with Sebastian to bring help in the form of Landon and Rafael. Hope stays at the school to deal with Krampus and Clarke.

It turns out Santa is real in The Vampire Diaries universe. He fights Krampus and breaks the spell of holiday cheer. Alaric ends up getting his job back as Headmaster and Kaleb gets a car from Santa.

On the relationship front, Lizzie gives in to her feelings for Sebastian as they bring Landon back to the school. Rafael decides to stay and get to know his father. Once Landon rises from the dead, he makes his choice between Hope and Josie, getting back together with Hope and breaking up with Josie.

In a moment that seems like it should have been a bigger deal, the Malivore pit is closed when Clarke is killed by the red-hooded figure and his body filled with Hope’s blood is tossed in the pit. It’s then revealed that it’s the Necromancer under the red hood, setting him up as one of the potential big bads for the second half of the season.

When Legacies returns, the prophecy from the Sphinx about the new threat is sure to take on a large role. It will be interesting to see how the Necromancer plays into that. That talk of prisoners is sure to tie into Kai Parker’s return in the second half of the season.

And while Malivore may appear to be gone for now, it’s common for the biggest TVD villains to never stay gone for long — even after seemingly being killed off for good. The best example being Katherine returning in season 8 of TVD despite her very permanent-looking death in season 5. So, don’t remove Malivore from the Legacies big bad list yet.
