Are banks like Bank of America and Wells Fargo open on Christmas 2019?

This question is one that gets asked every year. There are a lot of reasons why we might need to know bank hours including depositing checks, getting cash, managing our direct deposits and other issues. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your issues) all United States-based banks will be closed on Christmas day. That includes banks like Wells Fargo, Chase, US Bank, Bank of America and the hundreds of various credit unions.

What this means is that things like checks could take longer to clear and direct deposits might be slower to appear in your account. You can still do ATM-based transactions like depositing checks, getting cash and checking balances. Your online accounts will also still be accessible, but the customer service phone numbers may not be manned. That’s a case by case basis so check your bank for exact info.

Here’s a helpful link that provides all the major bank holiday hours just in case you’re bank doesn’t have them posted easily. And, before you ask, banks are also closed on New Year’s Day.

If you get a bunch of cash on Christmas morning, go ahead and deposit it into the ATM, you can still do that (or spend it all in one place, we don’t judge.)
