After passing one big test at Allen Fieldhouse last Saturday, the Kansas Jayhawks are set to face another as the Baylor Bears bring their 12-1 record to the Phog.

The 2018-2019 college basketball season was a significant one for Kansas, and it wasn’t in a good way. Despite entering the year as the nation’s top-ranked team, Kansas not only got bounced early in the NCAA Tournament, but they also saw their streak of 14 consecutive Big 12 regular season titles come to an end.

The Jayhawks are on a mission to start a new streak this year, beginning their run at a new Big 12 regular-season championship with a 2-0 start in league play. The country’s No. 3 team is powered offensively by guard Devon Dotson, who leads the Jayhawks in scoring (18.6 points per game) and assists (4.5 dimes a night).

Dotson’s emergence as the go-to-guy for Kansas has made life much easier for everyone else to fill roles behind him. A healthy Udoka Azubuike has given Kansas significant interior presence, and 8.8 rebounds a night, while the Jayhawks knock a respectable 36.8 percent of their three-point attempts.

After knocking off West Virginia at Allen Fieldhouse last Saturday, Kansas welcomes in perhaps their stiffest competition in the Big 12, the 12-1 Baylor Bears. Since losing by three against Washington back in November, the Bears have ripped off 11 straight wins to surge to No. 4 in the latest AP poll.

The Baylor offense is powered by two guards, Jared Butler and MaCio Teague, who combine to average just over 30 points a night for the Bears. That well-balanced attack complements one of the nation’s strongest defenses, which ranks ninth in the nation and allows opponents to score only 58.4 points per game.

Although these two teams appear to be very evenly matched on paper, the Jayhawks have a big advantage in this game in the fact that they are the home team. Allen Fieldhouse is one of the most difficult places to play in the country, and Kansas has been especially lethal at home under head coach Bill Self.

It has been a very long time since the Bears scored a victory at Allen Fieldhouse, with the last Baylor win there coming back in 2009. If there is a Bears team capable of snapping that streak, however, it is this one.
