The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl-bound, establishing themselves as an unstoppable force in the process.

After falling behind 24-0 last week, a 17-7 first half deficit to the Tennessee Titans must have felt like nothing for the Kansas City Chiefs. The rally took more than a quarter this time, but Kansas City scored 28 unanswered points once again to storm past the Titans and earn a trip to the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years.

Patrick Mahomes displayed more of his trademark brilliance again, completing 23 of 35 passes for 294 yards and three touchdowns against no interceptions. The running game was also an important part of Mahomes’ arsenal, as he carried eight times for 53 yards, including an incredible effort on a 27 yard touchdown late in the first half to give the Chiefs the lead for good.

The Kansas City defense also rounded into form after getting pushed around by Derrick Henry early, holding him to just 19 carries for 69 yards and a score on the day, a far cry from Henry’s dominating performances over the first two rounds of the playoffs. That put more of the burden on Titans’ quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who the Chiefs sacked three times and frustrated by swarming his receivers.

This was the second straight brilliant effort from the Chiefs, who are now headed to the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years. While San Francisco or Green Bay will be a worthy adversary for them, the Chiefs have shown for the past several months that they are an unstoppable force that will be a nightmare for the NFC Champion to deal with.

This victory makes eight straight wins for the Chiefs dating back to the regular season, and their ability to score large amounts of points at the drop of a hat is absolutely terrifying for opposing defensive coordinators. The fact that the Kansas City defense, which was a sieve in the first half of the season, is now a respectable unit too makes them truly the favorites to take home the Lombardi Trophy on Feb. 2.

The fact that this team, in back-to-back weeks, fell behind double digits early in playoff games and rallied back to win by double digits is incredibly impressive. It certainly looks as if the Chiefs are on a magic carpet ride right now and no one will be able to stop them anytime soon.
