The 2020 college football season is still months away but these are the 13 best matchups we’ll be getting excited about all offseason long.

It’s always hard to come down off of a sports-fueled high like the one that college football left us with after this past season. We were treated to one of the most dominant individual performances the sport has ever seen from Joe Burrow, who also led the LSU Tigers to a dominant and wildly entertaining campaign that culminated in a thrilling National Championship Game victory over the defending champs, the Clemson Tigers.

Looking at college football at large, LSU alone wasn’t the only story of the season. The Tigers are the champs and they had some of the most unforgettable moments of the year, like their highly touted showdown with Alabama or the domination of Georgia in the SEC Championship Game or even both of their College Football Playoff matchups. All of those games belong in any “games of the year” conversation.

But now that the book has been closed on the 2019 college football season, it’s natural for fans to be left wanting. It’s a long 8.5 months from when the National Championship Game is played until the 2020 college football season kicks off. Sure, National Signing Day, spring games and so on will wet the whistle a bit but they don’t curb the appetite for the big-time matchups that make the sport so great.

Where that leaves us as fans is in a position where we must look ahead and speculate about what’s to come. All we can do is look at the departures, transfers, recruits and so on that will change the landscape of college football and figure out where our attention should be whenever the 8.5-month hiatus known as the offseason finally subsides.

In that light, perhaps the best way to turn our attention to the future is to look at the regular-season games in 2020 that will go in the same mold as Alabama-LSU, Notre Dame-Georgia and many more from this past season. So let’s take a look over half a year into the future at the 13 best games in the 2020 college football season that fans should already be looking forward to.
