Carson Palmer impressed by Ryan Tannehill but thinks Titans could draft a quarterback

Carson Palmer believes the Tennessee Titans have found their guy at quarterback in the short-term with Ryan Tannehill, but the quarterback search is ongoing for a long-term solution.

Carson Palmer had a great NFL career with three different franchises over 14 seasons and knows how quarterback play can stabilize a franchise.

While he has been impressed with the job Ryan Tannehill did in his first year with the Tennessee Titans, Palmer believes the Titans’ quarterback search will be an ongoing one as he spoke with FanSided‘s Mark Carman at the Super Bowl on behalf of The FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Year Awards.

“I think they found their quarterback for maybe a three-year contract,” said Palmer. “I don’t think their quarterback search is said and done. I think they’re going to continue to look in the draft and look for somebody who’s 22, not a guy who’s at the halfway point of his career.”

“But what Ryan did was phenomenal. To come into that situation when a team has drafted a guy as the No. 2 pick in the draft and they’re all-in on him and it doesn’t go so well and you get thrown in. He just took over that team. And Marcus [Mariota] could not have done a better job of letting that transition happen. That was a very difficult position to be in as far as Marcus is concerned.”

Palmer added it’s not easy to thrive in an offense where everybody knows the ball is going to running back Derrick Henry but Tannehill did that. He shined in Arthur Smith’s offense and made his first career trip to the Pro Bowl in his eighth year in the league.

Palmer wrapped up his conversation with Carman by saying all teams are looking to go young and cheap. This is a quarterbacking situation where the Titans have to be honest with themselves. Tannehill was great last year and might be good for them over the next few years, but they’re going to have to draft somebody good and young at quarterback very soon.
