Cleveland Cavaliers

Sending out: Kevin Love (POR), Tristan Thompson (MIN), Brandon Knight (ORL)

Bringing in: Bismack Biyombo (CHA), Chandler Parsons (ATL), LaMarcus Aldridge (SAS), 2020 first-round pick (NYK)

I don’t really know what the Cavaliers are doing but I take heart in the fact that they might not either. Darius Garland and Collin Sexton are a fascinating backcourt combination but fascinating is not necessarily the same thing as effective and as foundational pieces they raise way more questions than they answer. The good news is that I’m helping them get as many bites at the apple as possible.

Here, the Cavaliers dump several large veteran contracts including Kevin Love who, honestly, they don’t really deserve. They’ve never appreciated him and he deserves better. In return, they take on the expiring contracts of Biyombo and Parsons, pay for one more year of LaMarcus Aldridge if they can’t buy him out and pick up the best draft asset that changes hands in this convoluted deal — the Knicks 2020 first-round pick. If the lottery were held today, the Cavaliers would have a 25.5 percent chance of landing the top pick between their own odds and the Knicks’ and a very good chance of ending up with two top-five picks.
