The Kansas City Chiefs are one win away from their first championship in 50 years. For quarterback Patrick Mahomes, this is about an entire city.

Sixty minutes.

Sixty minutes of good football, and the Kansas City Chiefs wash away 50 years of pain.

For quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the stakes are high for a multitude of reasons. It’s obvious every player wants to win a Super Bowl for themselves, but Mahomes sees more in a potential victory. He sees head coach Andy Reid, still charging at that challenge in his 21st year at the top of this profession. He also sees a fanbase starved for the ultimate success.

“I think it would be amazing to go out there and win the Super Bowl for him,” Mahomes said. “I think it would be amazing for all of us, also. For him to have that work ethic that he has every single day, to have this much success that he’s had, you understand it’s a big game and you want to win it. Not only for him, but for us and Kansas City.”

Since coming to the Chiefs as the 10th-overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, Mahomes has been a revelation. Earning the starting role prior to the ’18 campaign, the former Texas Tech star has reached two Pro Bowls, earned First-Team All-Pro status, was the league’s Most Valuable Player and now has Kansas City in its first Super Bowl since 1969.

In the postseason, Mahomes has been utterly brilliant. In two games against the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans, the 24-year-old has nine total touchdowns without a turnover. The result is an offense which scored 86 points over those affairs, winning both by double-digits after trailing in the first half by double-digits.

As of Wednesday morning, the Chiefs are favored to win by 1.5 points over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV.
