The DraftKings PGA: 2020 Pebble Beach Pro-AM Picks and Analysis

Props to Webb Simpson for making some huge putts on Sunday at the Waste Management Open. However, Tony Finau let another one slip away in front of a packed house in Scottsdale at the Waste Management. All in all, the preamble to the Super Bowl did not disappoint. Now, to Pebble Beach and the 2020 Pebble Beach Pro-AM!

The Tour moves from the Arizona desert back to the California coast this week. The 2020 Pebble Beach Pro-Am is a familiar event on the PGA Tour at a familiar course(s). This is not the same Pebble Beach as you saw Gary Woodland take down at the US Open though.

Unlike the US Open, three courses will be featured during this tournament. Two rounds will be played at Pebble Beach, one at Monterey Penninsula, and one at Spyglass Hills.

The three courses feature wide open fairways, tiny Poa greens, and a will play around 7,000 yards (which is quite a bit shorter than most PGA tracts). Monterey Peninsula typically plays the easiest, with Pebble playing around par, and Spyglass Hill playing over par.

In 2019 we saw Phil cruise to victory over Paul Casey with a score of 20-under par. The 2018 edition of the Pebble Beach Pro-AM saw Ted Potter Jr. hold off Dustin Johnson for his 2nd win. Potter finished at 17-under. Jordan Spieth won in 2017 at 19-under.

These courses typically favors bombers and ball-strikers who have solid short games. The greens are small, so if you can hit all of them you have a good chance at making putts. But, if you are missing the greens it is imperative to be able to get up and down. Being a Pro-AM, the greens are relatively slower than these pros are used to, and great putters can take advantage of that.
