Denver Broncos free agency 2020: Top 5 targets
By John Buhler
Anthony Castonzo might be one of the more proven offensive tackles hitting free agency this spring, but the player that has the biggest intrigue at the position has to be Tennessee Titans right tackle Jack Conklin. Despite being a first-round pick in 2016, Tennessee decided to not exercise its fifth-year option on the right tackle out of Michigan State. Could this come back to bite them?
Well, the Titans have a lot of tough decisions to make this offseason. They only have $48.6 million to work with in available cap space. The Titans also need to figure out what to do with running back Derrick Henry, quarterback Ryan Tannehill and cornerback Logan Ryan. All three were instrumental in Tennessee’s run to the AFC Championship game this past season.
Conklin should be in the mix to get a contract extension, as he did play up to his lofty draft pick in 2019. However, not offering him the fifth-year option might have left a bad taste in his mouth, possibly making him more inclined to chase the biggest offer he can get as an impending free agent. Denver has the resources and the need to make him a compelling offer.

While Conklin has played right tackle in Tennessee, this has more to do with him being paired opposite of an excellent left tackle in Taylor Lewan. Conklin may only end up being a right tackle in this league, but he’s a premium talent along the offensive line who may not be returning to his former team on a new deal. Look for the Broncos to strike while the iron’s hot.
