It’s a team that’s missed the playoffs four straight years since winning the NFC East in 2015. Who could the Washington Redskins covet during free agency?

It’s a franchise that hasn’t reached the NFC Championship Game and hasn’t won a playoff game in more than a decade. But one thing the Washington Redskins have gotten down pat under current owner Daniel Snyder is consistency when it comes to changing head coaches.

Perhaps things will be different this time around as highly-respected Ron Rivera takes over in D.C. He inherits a team to won only three games in 2019. Ironically, the last of those was a comeback victory at Carolina that proved to be his final appearance as the Panthers’ sideline leader

Now he becomes the 10th different head coach under Snyder. The Redskins have not been to the playoffs since winning the NFC East in 2015. So what free-agent additions could help this struggling franchise?

5. ILB Danny Trevathan (Chicago Bears)

There were times that the Washington defense showed plenty of promise. After an awful start which saw the team allow at least 31 points in four of their first five outings, the Redskins limited four of their next six opponents to less than points. But it would not end well for this unit as the club surrendered a disappointing 125 points in their last three contests.

This is a group that’s not without talent. The defensive front includes The line includes ends Matt Ioannadis and 2017 first-round pick Jonathan Allen and two-year nose tackle Da’Ron Payne. The team got a lot of production from rookie linebackers Montez Sweat (7 sacks) and Cole Holcomb (101). But the bottom line is that this team gave up 435 points and 49 offensive touchdowns.

Washington also allowed the second-most rushing yards in the league. Journeyman Jon Bostic finished second on the team in tackles but the club is hoping to have a healthy Reuben Foster at its disposal. But could the ‘Skins secure a veteran insurance policy in Danny Trevathan? He’s coming off a year in which he missed the final seven games with an elbow injury. But in those first none contests, he racked up an impressive 70 tackles and could be a solid addition for new defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio.
