XFL week 2 fantasy POV: Start QBs Walker, Jones; Guardians will win
It is the perfect setup for Week #2 in the XFL. Two games have undefeated teams facing each other. Quarterbacks P.J. Walker and Cardale Jones will add to their impressive Week #1 stats. And the weekend’s opening game looks like an opportunity for the N.Y. Guardians (1-0) to eke out a narrow victory over the D.C. Defenders (1-0).
Based on the XFL schedule, here’s how the weekend stacks up.
N.Y. Guardians (1-0) at D.C. Defenders (1-0)
- Saturday, February 15, 2:00 p.m. EST at Audi Field, Washington, D.C.
- TV Channel: ABC and Live Stream: Watch ESPN and the ESPN App
Summary: It will be a classic battle featuring D.C.’s offense, led by quarterback Cardale Jones, against the N.Y. Guardians defense, led by defensive end Bummi Rotimi.
Jones led the Defenders to a 31-19 win over Seattle in Week #1 and is No. 3 in XFL scoring with 24.2 fantasy football points, but he faces a tougher opponent Saturday. Rotimi had 7 tackles, two assists, one sack, two tackles for losses in yardage and forced one fumble.
The Guardians had 5 sacks, including two from safety Wesley Sutton, and picked off two Tampa Bay passes. Their defense is No. 2 with 26 points based on the standard fantasy football scoring system .
From a DFS perspective, I recommend you:
- START D.C. quarterback Cardale Jones
- START N.Y. Guardians defense
- SIT running backs from either team
- EXPECT the Guardians to win by 3 with the total points not exceeding 41.
T.B. Vipers (0-1) at Seattle Dragons (0-1)
- Saturday, February 15, 5:00 p.m. EST at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, WA
- TV Channel: Fox and Live Stream: fuboTV
Summary: The Dragons seem poised to win their first game of the season. They put up more yards of offense than the D.C. Defenders (310 to 295) despite losing 31-19 in Week #1.
Dragons quarterback Brandon Silvers is No. 4 in XFL fantasy football scoring with 22.8 points. Plus a new target, former CFL wide receiver S.J. Green, was added to the Seattle roster this week.
Aaron Murray, Tampa Bay’s quarterback, had a rough first week. He threw 2 interceptions in the first half in the loss to the Guardians, injured his ankle and then was replaced by Quinton Flowers in the second half of the game. Flowers took first team reps this week and will lean on wide receiver Dan Williams and running back De’Veon Smith to generate yards and points.
From a DFS perspective, I recommend you:
- START Seattle quarterback Brandon Silvers
- START Seattle wide receiver Austin Proehl
- SIT Tampa Bay quarterback Aaron Murray
- EXPECT Seattle to win their home opener by 7 with the total points not exceeding 35.
Dallas Renegades (0-1) at L.A. Wildcats (0-1)
- Sunday, Feb. 16, 3:00 p.m. EST at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, CA
- TV Channel: ABC and Live Stream: Watch ESPN and the ESPN App
Summary: One of these teams will put some of their troubles behind them with a victory on Sunday. Los Angeles enters the game with question marks at quarterback, while Dallas is hoping the debut of Landry Jones at quarterback will ignite their team.
Los Angeles quarterback Charles (Chad) Kanoff kept the Wildcats competitive against the Houston Roughnecks until he suffered a “shoulder/head” injury. L.A. was down by a point, 18-17, at the half, but Houston scored the final 19 points to increase the margin of victory,
One added complication is the anticipated starter for the Wildcats, Josh Johnson, remains out with thigh injury. L.A. is hoping Kanoff is healthy enough to play Sunday. If he’s unavailable, then their No. 3 quarterback, Jalan McClendon, will have to start for the Wildcats.
From a DFS perspective, I recommend you:
- START Dallas quarterback Landry Jones
- START Dallas running back Lance Dunbar
- SIT Los Angeles quarterback(s)
- EXPECT the Renegades to win by 8 with the total points not exceeding 44.
St. Louis Battlehawks (1-0) at Houston Roughnecks (1-0)
- Sunday, February 16, 6:00 p.m. EST at TDECU Stadium in Houston, TX
- TV Channel: FS1 and Live Stream: fuboTV
Summary: Week #2 closes with a battle between two undefeated teams. Sr. Louis won a low-scoring 15-9 game against Tampa Bay in Week #1, while Houston scored 19 unanswered points in the second half to pull away from L.A. in a 37-17 win.
If Houston quarterback Phillip (P.J.J Walker is as efficient in his second game as he was in the first game, the Battlehawks will have a tough time corralling the Roughneck pass receivers. Walker is the leading scorer in XFL fantasy football with 39.5 points. He threw for 272 yards and four touchdowns against L.A. last weekend.
Two of Walker’s favorite targets are Cam Phillips and Kahlil Lewis, Each of them had a touchdown catch in Week #1.
From a DFS perspective, I recommend you:
START Houston quarterback Phillip (P.J.) Walker
START St. Louis quarterback Jordan Ta’amu
SIT St. Louis’ defense
EXPECT Houston to win by 5 with the total points not exceeding 47.
