2020 NFL mock draft: Detroit Lions replace Darius Slay
By Brad Weiss
The Indianapolis Colts have a big decision to make in terms of their quarterback situation this offseason, as some believe they will roll the dice on a free agent like Philip Rivers. They do have a very capable signal-caller in Jacoby Brissett, but after only offering him a short-term deal, are they really convinced he is their guy moving forward?
Sitting at No. 13 overall, the Colts may shock the world and select a quarterback, be it a guy like Utah State’s Jordan Love, or Jacob Eason from Washington. While that could certainly happen, the likelihood is they will use this pick to get better along the defensive line, bringing in the most versatile defensive tackle in this draft class.
Javon Kinlaw from South Carolina is an absolute beast, as he is an elite player against the run, but can also get the edge and get after the quarterback. Indianapolis has some young, solid players on the defensive side of the ball, and adding Kinlaw to a group that includes Malik Hooker and Darius Leonard will only make them better in 2020.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have to decide the fate of Jameis Winston this offseason, as he is done with his rookie contract following the 2019 season. Winston recently got Lasik surgery, which should help him distinguish between throwing to his own team (30 touchdowns), and the other team (30 Interceptions) moving forward.
Looking at the Tampa Bay roster, if they do decide to move on from Winston, they could be in play for former Las Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. With good talent at wide receiver, and capable running backs, bolstering the offensive line is one of the few things left to do on that side of the ball.
Mekhi Becton is a mountain of a man, and on this Tampa Bay offensive line, he would slide right in as the starting left tackle from Day 1. Whether it is Winston, Rivers, or any other quarterback for the Bucs next season, the fact is, they need to get better up front, and Becton helps them do that immediately.
