Fourth Round

WR. Minnesota Golden Gophers. Tyler Johnson. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 112. player. 852

Cleveland already has a ton of wide receiver talent on its roster, most notably with Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. However, new general manager Andrew Berry saw first hand what happens when you run out of healthy wide receivers from his time in the Philadelphia Eagles front office. The Browns are in need of a mid-round receiver anyway, so they’re taking one in the fourth round.

With the No. 112 overall pick in the fourth round, the Browns will select Tyler Johnson of the Minnesota Golden Gophers. As a senior in Minneapolis, Johnson was First-Team All-Big 10 with 86 catches for 1,318 yards and a jaw-dropping 13 touchdowns. He went over 1,000 yards a season in both of his upperclassmen years playing for former NFL wide receiver P.J. Fleck.

It was the vaunted aerial attack of the Golden Gophers that had Minnesota on the precipice of reaching the Big Ten title game in Indianapolis. While there is a chance Johnson was coached up more than his NFL talent would indicate under Fleck, the Browns would be getting a cerebral receiver who got better every year he played in the Big Ten.

It make take a season or two for him to find his footing in a deep Cleveland receiving corps, but his productivity in college speaks for itself. At 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Johnson has the size to be an effective receiver at the next level. With this being a deep receiving class, the Browns look to be getting a great deal of value out of this fourth-round draft selection.
