2. New York Jets

Current cap space: $56,337,397

Just like the team that shares a stadium with them, the New York Jets have not experienced winning football in quite some time. Actually, a much longer team than fellow stadium, the New York Giants.

Recently, there has been more optimism than in past years. Sam Darnold appears to be the franchise’s first long-term answer at quarterback in decades, and the Adam Gase-led Jets finished the 2019 season well. After starting 1-7, they finished 7-9.

More of the team’s success belongs to the defense and coordinator Gregg Williams. Dealing with injuries and working with a ton of inexperienced players, he had the defense playing very well. They were great against the run but defending the pass and rushing the passer needs to drastically improve.

Clowney is almost a must for the Jets. With C.J. Mosley and Avery Williamson coming back from injury in 2020, adding Clowney could potentially give the Jets one of the most talented defenses in the NFL.

With Clowney’s ability to play outside as a linebacker or with his hand in the turf as a defensive end, Williams would be able to play him in very creative ways.

Like Judon with the Ravens, Jordan Jenkins is ready to hit the open market after he led his team in sacks in 2019. Similarly to the position DeCosta will be in, Joe Douglas should feel inclined to upgrade from Jenkins to Clowney.
