2020 NFL Draft: Kansas City Chiefs 7-round mock
By Tre LyDay
Round 5 – Pick 159
Michael Onwenu, C/G, Michigan
The Chiefs might have some decisions to make among the interior of their offensive line this offseason. They’re seemingly set at center with Austin Reiter, but the two guard positions are uncertain.
Andrew Wylie was inactive all postseason and the final few weeks of the regular season even though he had recovered from an ankle injury. Stephen Wisniewski took over at the left guard spot after the team brought him in during free agency.
The team also has to decide what they want to do with Laurent Duvernay-Tardif’s contract. He didn’t have his best season, but did log his most games played in a season since 2016. Drafting Onwenu could be a a depth move late in the draft.
Onwenu has good mobility for a bigger guy. He’s not going to get overpowered a lot which is to be expected for a guy his size, but he’s not going to overpower a lot of people either. Most of his work was done at the Shrine Bowl after not getting a ton of playing time at Michigan.
Even though the Chiefs are getting back Martinas Rankin from a torn patella tendon he’s going to add depth, and with decisions to be made among the interior line Onwenu could be a depth add as well.
Kansas City doesn’t have picks in rounds 6 and 7
