College football has birthed another fantastic bowl game in the LA Bowl. It’ll be played at SoFi Stadium because you can never have too many bowl games.

Fact: You can never have too many college football bowl games.

As long as the holiday season bowl in question can be played in warm weather or in a dome, why would you not want as many as possible? We already had 43 heading into next season, including the national championship game, but 43 is an odd number, so let’s get it to 44 as fast as we can.

Introducing for the first time to the world, the LA Bowl, a bowl to be played at brand-new SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

The game will feature the best team from the Mountain West, as the Las Vegas Bowl has kicked the Group of 5 conference to the curb in favor of Big Ten and SEC schools. As long the Boise State Broncos aren’t good enough to lose to the third-best team from the Big Ten or SEC in the Cotton Bowl Classic, they will find a new home in this West Coast bowl game that’s too cool for initials.

It’s only fitting the Pac-12 will also send some team to this bowl game, too. While it might only be the second-most important Pac-12 bowl game in the Greater Los Angeles area, there is so much room for activities at Hollywood Park. Why go to Disneyland, when you can go here and play some football for free?

All jokes aside, it was inevitable that SoFi Stadium would be home to a college football bowl game. The weather will be fantastic in late December or early January when it’s played. It’s a state of the art facility that will house two NFL franchises that didn’t call Los Angeles home even five years ago. Who says change isn’t a good thing?

The Rams draw decently, but the Chargers absolutely do not. So maybe this game can draw up some interest to a sport that frankly, the West Coast isn’t all that interested in? We can blame USC’s perpetual dysfunction for the decline of West Coast football all we want, but perhaps the LA Bowl is exactly what California, the Mountain West and the Pac-12 need.

For the Mountain West, the best team in this Group of 5 conference will play a holiday season bowl in a bigger media market and at a better stadium.

For the Pac-12, there will be a lot of cool stuff to do at spacious Hollywood Park. Will there be a college football bowl game going on? Sure, but it’s about creating a new hip environment for a bowl game to exist. It’s an event you can theoretically take the whole family to.

Who cares how the California Golden Bears play in this game when you can take a selfie in front of SoFi Stadium and get matching commemorative shirts for a game you left before halftime. It’ll be a nice break from your Saturday morning commute to Starbucks.

As for college football, you know ESPN or FOX will want to showcase this brand-new football cathedral for all to watch. This game will air on a bigger television spot than it probably should on aesthetic alone. Even if the game reeks of 10-7 RedBox Bowl nonsense, at least SoFi Stadium will look utterly spectacular from the shots the Goodyear Blimp gives us. It’s going to be fantastic.
