Every year, players gain a ton of momentum to go rocketing up draft boards to be a top prospect. Tristan Wirfs has come out of Iowa and into the NFL Scouting Combine to be a potential top-10 pick.

With the NFL Scouting Combine currently underway, the offensive linemen underwent measurements and were put under the microscope.

With teams, arm length is the key indicator between a tackle prospect and an interior prospect. As a general rule of thumb, teams want a minimum amount of arm length to even consider a player as a tackle, as opposed to a prospect who moves to guard.

Tristan Wirfs is a consensus first-round prospect, but there were questions on whether or not he had the arm length to be a tackle. Wirfs measured exactly 34 inches for his arm length, which is an acceptable length for a tackle.

Teams usually want a minimum of 32 or 33 inch arms for a tackle, Wirfs is well over this margin. He also weighed in at a shade under 6-foot-5, exactly 320 pounds and a wingspan of over 80 inches.

In short, Wirfs has all the physical attributes team need for a tackle in the NFL.

Wirfs has fans in the NFL scouting community. Walter Football listed Wirfs as a player whose stock was up, saying:

"There are four offensive tackles who are expected to go as top-16 picks of the 2020 NFL Draft, but teams vary on which one is the top tackle on their board. Some teams have Wirfs graded similarly to Georgia’s Andrew Thomas and Louisville’s Mekhi Becton as the top three tackles. Other teams vary in their order, but one team source said Wirfs could end up being their top tackle prospect. Wirfs has a good skill set and could be a star in pre-draft workouts. Judging from team sources, Wirfs has a shot at being a top-five pick in the 2020 NFL Draft."

A top-five pick may be a little optimistic given how highly quarterbacks are drafted and the large array of defensive talent in the draft, but Wirfs certainly has all the momentum right now.

All it takes is for one team to fall in love with a prospect to be picked higher than expected. Wirfs has his fans, and all he needs to do is convince one of those teams that he is the future.

There’s a long way to go until he’s selected, but Wirfs is a potential wildcard that could help shape the 2020 NFL Draft.
