Shaquil Barrett

Over anything else, the Buccaneers have to re-sign Shaquil Barrett. He’s an undrafted free agent that’s turned into a star pass rusher. Is he going to be a player that gets 20 sacks every single season? We don’t think so. However, he looks like he’s on his way to being a very consistent player.

It looks like Barrett needs to prove it one more season before getting that massive extension he probably deserves, unless he’s willing to sign a huge deal without a lot of guarantees. That doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen, unless he signs one similar to the Green Bay Packers deal they signed for Za’Darius Smith (four years, $66 million, $20 guaranteed).

It’s more likely this is going to be a franchise tag situation. Barrett had three sacks for the Denver Broncos in 2018. He had 20 for the Bucs when he signed there in 2019. He might sign for a team-friendly deal this offseason, because he famously hates moving. So, it’s very possible he does sign for a deal that pays him a surprising amount of money.

Either way, of all the Bucs pass rushers, Barrett is the player they need to keep. Everyone else is near the end of their careers, while Barrett might be starting something special.
