Fourth Round

119. player. Pick Analysis. Saahdiq Charles. LSU Tigers. 817. Scouting Report. OT

LSU sent more teams to the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine than any program in football. It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, as the Bayou Bengals put together arguably the best single season in college football history. NFL teams will want a piece of that sweet, delicious, championship Baton Rouge pie. The Colts will be able to get them a slice here in the fourth round at offensive tackle.

With the No. 119 overall pick, Indianapolis will select offensive tackle Saahdiq Charles out of LSU. At 6-foot-4 and 295 pounds, Charles is a tad undersized to play left tackle in this league. However, he was part of one of the most prolific offenses in college football history. He opened up running lanes for Clyde Edwards-Helaire, as well as kept Joe Burrow clean and upright in the pocket.

LSU’s 2019 offense transfers over favorably to the NFL, so much so that its passing game coordinator Joe Brady is now running the Carolina Panthers’ offense at only 30 years old. The offense encapsulated pro-style concepts in the ground game, as well as going with an up-tempo spread to move the sticks aerially. Burrow won the Heisman Trophy leading this offense.

Offensive tackle is a position the Colts are likely to address in free agency, especially with longtime left tackle Anthony Castonzo looking for a new deal. Though he’s probably not a franchise left tackle as Castonzo was coming out of Boston College in 2011, Charles could be worked into a rotation as a swing tackle during his rookie season out of LSU in 2020 with the Colts.
