Mikey Garcia and Jessie Vargas meet in a welterweight clash in Frisco, TX. Both are talented boxers, but there can only be one winner. Here’s how to watch.

Former multiple division titlist Mikey Garcia (39-1, 30 KOs) lost for the first time in his last bout against Errol Spence Jr., but he’s taking a second crack at the welterweight division. He meets Jessie Vargas (29-2-2, 11 KOs) on Saturday, Feb. 29, at The Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, TX on DAZN.

Vargas won his last fight against Humberto Soto by knockout in round 6. He has two losses and two draws on his record, but those numbers are deceiving. Vargas’s defeats came against Timothy Bradley Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, who are both future Hall-of-Famers.

Vargas’s draws were close and could easily have been awarded to him. He has a sizable height and reach advantage over the smaller Garcia. Both fight out of an orthodox stance, but Vargas is the more natural welterweight.

Garica vs. Vargas is an intriguing matchup, but it is one of several exciting fights on the card. Also included is a WBA super flyweight bout between reigning champion Khalid Yafai (26-0, 15 KOs) and former super flyweight king Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (48-2, 40 KOs).

This will be Yafai’s sixth title defense. Gonzalez held the WBC title until he lost back to back bouts to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in 2017. He has won his last two contests by TKO.

The third title bout is between current WBC flyweight champion Julio Cesar Martinez (15-1, 12 KOs) and Jay Harris (17-0, 9 KOs). Martinez is defending his title for the first time. He won it in December after stopping Cristofer Rosales in round 9.

Harris, who’s from Wales, fights in the U.S. for the first time. He possesses a clean record but lacks notable opposition.

Other notable names on the undercard include former heavyweight titleholder, Joseph Parker (26-2, 20 KOs) and undefeated super welterweight Israil Madrimov (4-0, 4 KOs).
