Seattle Seahawks free agency 2020: Top 5 targets
By Nick Villano
1. Jason Peters
The Seattle Seahawks desperately need to upgrade the offensive line if they lose Germain Ifedi, Mike Iupati and George Fant. All three are free agents, and that immediately kills the depth on an O-line that’s already struggling at times.
One name to watch is Jason Peters. Obviously, the injuries are a major concern. He’s missed some time in two of the last three seasons, and he’s 38 years old. Going all-in on him would be concerning, however with his age and ability, it might be worth the price he commands to keep his career going.
The Seahawks paid big to bring in Duane Brown to solidify their left tackle spot. The Eagles would have to be sure Peters would be willing to play right tackle, which he hasn’t played full time in 13 years. However, when the Eagles were dealing with injuries last season, he made it clear he was willing to try the other side.
Peters is another boom-or-bust candidate that could be a huge reason the Seahawks once again fight for the top NFC seed. He’s an aging veteran that could be looking for a combination of one last payday and one last shot at a Super Bowl title. To do that, he has to be flexible to move around the offensive line depending on where he’s needed.
The Seahawks could round out their free agency moves by bringing in the veteran to keep this unit solidified for Wilson without the issue of guaranteeing dollars to a position that falls out of favor quickly.
