2020 NFL mock draft: Cowboys land Henry Ruggs
By Brad Weiss
The Indianapolis Colts are rumored to be in play for the services of Philip Rivers, who saw his 16-year run with the Los Angeles Chargers end this offseason. The Colts have a solid team on both sides of the ball, and if they do get Rivers to join them, they will be bringing in a prolific passer, but one who needs protection if he is going to produce.
Luckily for Rivers, the Colts have a tremendous offensive line, and with the No. 13 overall pick, they add a weapon for him on the outside. Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy is considered by many to be the No. 1 wide receiver in this draft class, and while we have him going after CeeDee Lamb, he is still going to be explosive at the next level.
In fact, Jeudy is not only incredibly fast, but he is an excellent route-runner, something that will help him stand out early in his NFL career. If the Colts can get Rivers, and add this weapon here, they will once again be in the playoff conversation, even in a very deep AFC South that produced two playoff teams last season.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers appear to be moving on from Jameis Winston, this after he led the NFL in passing yards, but also threw 30 interceptions. We knew head coach Bruce Arians was not going to put up with that, and with the No. 14 overall pick, they select their future at the quarterback position in Jordan Love.
Now, I am not saying Love starts for the Bucs in 2020, in fact, I think they will be in play for one of the veteran quarterback available, even Tom Brady. But in Love, they get a tremendously talented passer who has all the intangibles to be a starting quarterback at the NFL level, but also someone who needs time.
Tampa Bay has two 1,000-yard receivers, and while they also need to add to their offensive line, after Love’s Combine, he is going to be hard to pass on here in the middle of the first round. The Buccaneers have the right head coach, and talent on both sides of the ball, but in a competitive NFC South, they still may be a year or two away from contending.
