When the Dallas Renegades started the XFL season,  quarterback Landry Jones could not play due to an injured knee.  Philip Nelson started at quarterback in week 1 and he’ll be starting again this week against the New York Guardians.

The prognosis on Dallas quarterback Landry Jones is he could miss several weeks of action after re-injuring his knee against the Houston Roughnecks in a week 4 showdown.  Nelson started and lost to the St. Louis BattleHawks, 15-9, in the first game of the season.

He completed 34 of 43 passes for 219 yard and threw one interception, but in his second start this Saturday Nelson will have the much appreciated support of running back Cameron Artis-Payne and tight end Donald Parham.

Artis-Payne is No. 4 in the XFL in rushing yardage with 216 yards.  He averages 5.3 yards per carry and has caught 20 passes for 98 yards.

Parham emerged as Landry Jones’ favorite target in week 2.   He enters week 5 as No. 2 in receiving yardage with 27.3 yards and has been targeted 28 times in the last three games.  He also has four of the eight touchdowns scored by the Renegades.

In addition to starting Nelson in place of Jones at quarterback, the other challenge Dallas (2-2) faces is winning a home game.  They are 0-2i in Globe LIfe Park, though the losses were to XFL West division leader Houston and East division leader St. Louis.  Defensively, they are a middle of the pack in the XFL.

In New York, the quarterback debate may be (temporarily) resolved as Juan Perez led the Guardians (2-2) to a 17-14 win in week 4.  Perez completed 18 out of 26 passes for 150 yards.  He threw for one touchdown and had a quarterback rating of 96.6.

New York’s best player is running back Darius Victor, who had his most productive game of the season against the Wildcats last weekend.  Victor had 18 carries for 82 yards.  He has a total of 21.6 fantasy football points.

Defensively, the Guardians have two of the XFL’s leading sackers.  Defensive tackle Cavon Walker has 2.5 sacks and 3 tackles for loss, and safety Wes Sutton has 2 sacks.

It could be an interesting game because as much trouble as Dallas has winning at home, the Guardians are 0-2 on the road.  They lost to the D.C. Defenders 27-0 in week 2 and lost to St. Louis 29-9 in week 3.

Here are the DFS recommendations for this game:

  • START Dallas running back Cameron Artis-Payne
  • START Dallas tight end Donald Parham
  • SLEEPER is Dallas quarterback Philip Nelson
  • SIT anyone on the Guardians’ sluggish offense
  • EXPECT the Dallas Renegades to win by 7 with the total points not exceeding 31

The game will be played on:

  • Saturday, March 7, 5:00 p.m. EST at  at Globe Life Park in Arlington, TX
  • TV Channel: FOX  and Live Stream: fuboTV
